The Lights Out Dining Experience: A Night To Remember

As previously announced, Jewel Be Mine was thrilled to participate in a “visually impaired dining experience” last Thursday, October 3rd. Guests dined with their eyes blindfolded (the masks were courtesy of Jewel Be Mine and had our cute pink logo printed on it), in order to experience the challenges faced by the blind on a daily basis. Held at Bar Crudo, a popular tapas spot in South Beach, this was a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for those with visual disabilities.

This was definitely an awesome experience. Imagine you are blindfolded, unable to see, and a tap on the shoulder alerts you when drinks or food are being served to you. The first course, a soup-like gazpacho, was a challenge for us, as it was hard to know whether all of it was consumed, as we could only dip our spoons into the bowl and try to sense whether there was any left. Similarly, a salad course was challenging, as it was tough to grab leaves with the fork without being able to see. Other courses included a yummy salmon entrée and panna cotta for dessert. This meal was an extremely memorable experience, as we had to rely heavily on their other senses. It was invaluable to experience some of the unexpected challenges faced by those without vision, and we definitely look forward to participating in similar events in the future!
